Just before the Eclipse.

One of the most joyous aspects of retirement is the ability to postpone things. I’ve definitely taken advantage of that scenario with blog posting. But I shall try not to delay any longer and catch you up with what has been happening in Vicki and I’s life.

We are excited about the coming months as we are planning on an East Coast swing this year. We are booked all the way to Niagara Falls and beyond through early June. Then hopefully through Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and the upper east coast before the summer heat completely disappears. Looking forward to seeing the sights and exploring most of the history of the east coast. Hoping to enjoy excessive amounts of local cuisine, local lore, and the personalities of the eastern seaboard.

Vicki is almost completely recovered from her hammer toe surgery. Just a tiny bit of swelling remains but each day there is more and more improvement. Skin cancer has reared it’s ugly head once again with me however. Nothing critical, just basal cell on top of my head. Had it removed this past Friday and the top of noggin hurt more than the skin graft on the ear. While numbing the site, I almost had to go full Samuel L Jackson with ‘Mother-Father’ and ‘Sister Brother’ as the doc shot me up with unbuffered lidocaine. Took 9 stitches to close the incision and sometime this week we should get the results from the biopsy to determine if they got it all. Needless to say an enormous sombrero and SPF 50 is now part of my outdoor wardrobe.

We have had a hiccup in our travel plans as I now have a doctor’s appointment on the 24th to have my hearing tested. This is to apply for VA benefits of hearing loss for the tinnitus I acquired while in the Army. The ringing in my ears has never gone away from the trips to the range without hearing protection. We’ll see.

We had originally planned (and paid for) to leave on our trip on the 15th of April, but received a phone call Friday afternoon telling us of the appointment to have my hearing tested. Mind you, I initially started the claim in September of last year and this is the speed at which the VA and its minions works. Of course they would finally set up the appointment AFTER we had made several reservations which we have had to cancel last minute!! Such is life when dealing with a bureaucracy. We are now heading out on our adventure the 25th of April, so watch on FB and the blog for updates.

We’re almost through our birthday window. Celebrated Josh’s birthday yesterday. Can’t believe he turned 45, Oliver turned 14 on the 1st, Elisabeth, 43 on the 26th, and Dominic 23 on the 16th. Emmett will be 11 and is coming up the 17th and we’ll have made the trip around the sun as a family one more time.

The park is emptying out of winter Texans as we get farther into April. We did have a bit of a moment when our evil neighbors next door flew a Confederate flag atop a Texas State flag with an AR 15 emblazoned on it. Didn’t realize that we had the Klan living next-door, but will have to keep an eye out in the future. I am amazed at how angry people are in this political environment. We need to build a bigger table, not a higher wall, but I’d rather not go off on that tangent.

You readers are so good at sending positive energy so I’m asking once again. Our daughter-in-law is having knee replacement surgery, so any positive energy and healing powers you can send her way will be so appreciated. Also, Elisabeth is having gum surgery and that is incredibly painful, so good vibes you can send her way would also be an amazing thing too.

The wait is over and after 10 years on the waiting list, we are now holders of a Green Bay Packer Season ticket! We’re on the 20 yard line and look forward to eventually getting a second sit beside it and enjoying the Packers in good years and bad!

Have been repairing the RV, performing maintenance on the RV, and generally preparing for 6 months on the road. Replaced the water pump as the check valve was failing and the fresh water tank would constantly fill when connected to the permanent water source. Not a big issue, but would cause issues at campgrounds as the wet spot under the rig would be rather large after a weeks stay. Such is the life of an RVer.

This is a bit long, so will close for now, still loving retirement.
