Another Update

This coming Tuesday will be 3 weeks out since hip replacement surgery, and I have definitely come a long way! Basically, pain free in the hip, but where the doctor pounded my thigh with a cricket bat is still tender. When I asked him about that this Tuesday past, he said it was not a cricket bat but rather a ball pean hammer and that it should eventually stop hurting. Essentially what he had done was cut the anterior portion of hip exposing the pelvic girdle without having to cut any muscle. What he did have to do was stretch all the muscles out of the way and since they’re not accustomed to being stretched that way, there might be some pain involved. Well, no S***!!! But each and every day the pain and discomfort get less and less on a logarithmic scale.

I had a nurse come 3X a week for wound care and have been visited by a physical therapist as well three times a week. The surgical scar is healing wonderfully, and the physical therapist definitely rocks my world. Dr. Quesada has released me from my walker and all that I use now is a cane and that is basically for balance. I’m able to help with walking the dogs each morning and Annie and I make it to at least the mailbox and back. Vicki says I’m walking more and more upright, and my gait is more pronounced. The big thing is being pain free!!! It’s amazing the difference the surgery has made.

We are both getting itchy feet as we are in the absolute hottest place on earth. Will look forward to going north and not having to rush from air-conditioned room to air-conditioned room. We are still planning on leaving on the 15th of August and heading for the Pacific Northwest. Finally a chance to celebrate Frank’s 90th birthday. Really looking forward to seeing the family and also getting the awning replaced on the rig.

Our daily routine doesn’t much change as we await the healing process. Have been doing repairs and cleaning on the rig and deciding what is really necessary to take with us on the upcoming trip. Vicki is already planning our next trip as well east, so we’ll see what comes of that. The fur babies are doing fine and we look forward to your comments and questions. By the way, did I mention we’re still loving retirement!!!
