Still Another Update

Confined to the RV due to the heat in the Rio Grande Valley gives one the opportunity to update the Blog. The recovery of the hip is coming along nicely. I’m down to my last day of PT and each 15 minute session is becoming easier and easier. I am using a cane primarily for balance and Vicki is always pointing out when I limp or not walk completely erect. Am getting over 5000 steps a day and working to the magical 10,000.

Made the drive to McAllen to get Annie her Cytopoint injection and added heartworm and Rabies vaccine so she was not especially happy with us. We did take her to the Human Bean, our local alternative to Starbucks. She had a puppiccino which made the trip to the vet a little less painful.

We are slowly unpacking the shed with necessities for the trip to the Pacific Northwest. We’re discovering like our house, we just don’t need as much stuff, so emptying the basement and shed are getting less and less each day. It just has to be done early in the morning. We don’t cool much at night. When the girls say they have to go out at 5:30 am the temperature outside has cooled down to a mere 80 degrees. By 10:00 it’s in the 90’s with humidity well above 50% making work outside of air-conditioning almost impossible. But for the most part, we never intended to be here in south Texas for the summer months. It will be nice to be back in the PNW for the cool evenings of late summer and early fall.

Planning on heading to Mexico next week to get some doggie medicine. Maybe even grab a bit of lunch and then head back. So much fun in Nuevo Progresso and we feel very safe. Love us some Mexico.

The feet are definitely getting the itchy. We are going to be heading north on the 15th. The doctor has limited me to only 200 miles a day and so we are going to rigidly stick to that schedule with every 3rd day being a two day stay. It will take us two weeks to get to Mt Vernon, but hopefully gas prices will continue to fall. It was $3.169 here in Brownsville. My guess is it will stay below $4 until we hit the Pacific time zone. We are looking forward to finally getting the awning replaced and our AC serviced as well as replacing our fridge’s icemaker. It always something in a RV. On another motor vehicle note, we just cranked over 200,000 miles on our Ford Escape. A solid little car and works so well as TOAD.

Not to much else to report, but as always, look forward to your comments and ideas. By the way, did I mention, we’re still loving retirement!

Glad you found Nuevo Progresso. Had a great Mexican restaurant I think off the main drag. Had to tip the guard to watch the car but… also some neat little bars in the back of the stores.

Just found your blog under miscellaneous! 81 is just so much fun!! Anyway, congrats on getting your hip replacement. Sounds like you are doing very well. I’m sure Nurse Rachet is keeping you on the right track for a full recovery.
Today is your Happy Birthday, so I hope you are treating yourself to something tasty and nice. Like an air-conditioned restaurant! How about a cold beer?
Glad you are heading to the PNW. All the greenery and cool temps will be so nice. They had a cold spring, but the last 3-4 weeks have been very nice. I am sure you know.

Jeff and I are flying up to Seattle in Oct. He’s going fishing with Rick (my cousin Pam’s husband) and I am hanging out with her in Rainier. I leave in 2 weeks for a cousin (Cetak, pronounced chetock) reunion in Ord, NE. Just 5 days. Mid Sept. we are going to San Diego for a ‘celebration’ of life for Dave. Not sure celebration is the word I would choose but can’t think of another.
Going to have another great grandson in Nov. Jeff’s son Chris and wife Nicole. That will make 2 grandson’s for Jeff (Laura and Ryan have a boy doll, Alden Dean Fischer 16 mos this month) and 4 GREAT grands for us. 3 boys and one great granddaughter. 4 yr. old Landyn Brooke, Scott’s granddaughter. As I have said before, our Clan continues to grow.

Won’t get into politics, it’s just too terrible to think about. So you two, now that I have found your blog maybe I’ll stay in touch better. I tried to send you a Jackie Lawson card Vicki but for some unknown reason it would not go through. Guess I might just call and sing you the birthday song. 😉

Safe travels and enjoy your time on the road. Sounds like you have it all worked out.

    Our love to you both,
    Marian and Rob
