Episode 12 : Putting East Stroudsburg in the Rearview and heading to New Holland

It’s been an interesting week filled with relaxing, hiking, and seeing extended family here in Stroudsburg PA. South Eastern Pennsylvania is incredibly beautiful and the weather for the most part has been exceptional. Just one day of exceptionally hot weather which we spent at the TT pool. There we met a nice gentleman from New Jersey. A butcher named Roy who was very excited about learning more about full timing and Texas, vs Florida, vs South Dakota in terms of domicile. Chatted for a good deal and we were all good and wrinkly from the pool!!

We did have our first experience with no AT&T or Verizon internet and actually had to partake in the local ISP. A reasonable priced program was found and although we didn’t have the bandwidth for streaming, we are able to get onto the interwebs and do most of our retirement business. We do have cable available, its just an adjustment after having streaming for such a long time. Our hot spot from FMCA has been slowly dying, but a phone call, a chat with the tech and lo and behold, we have a new one being sent to us through our mail service. Life is certainly interesting when you’re full timing.

Spoke with the kids this week and the big news out of the PNW is the Boeing strike coming up in September. Since Boeing hasn’t endured a strike for such a long time, it’s definitely been due. Not that there won’t be pain, but they are thinking that it could last anywhere from one to three months. We’ll keep sending energy their way for a quick resolution.

We are in the Delaware Watershed and were able to take two nice ½ mile hikes. One to Dingman Falls and the other to Raymondskill falls. The 2nd and the highest water falls in Pennsylvania. Following are some of the views we had. The hikes were so beautiful and it was good to strike out in nature. They were mostly level hikes, although in places we were glad we had our hiking poles. For some reason, at 65, even the simplest hikes can have their challenges.

While in Stoudsburg Saturday, we stopped at a great little flea market. We were able to secure a couple of really cool spinning balloon windsocks and I even got a copper and leather bracelet. I’ve been looking at going more holistic medicine cures for what ails us. Also found some delicious coffee cake. Vicki experienced some pickle heat at Pickle Pete’s house of pickles. Good thing she had some bread and butter pickles to put out the fire! It took four B&B slices to put out the fire. Definitely a four-alarm tasting!

We are heading to New Holland PA for a week and looking forward to Amish Country. Looking forward to some good produce and baked goods in Rural PA. Did have a bit of an incident enroute. Tried turning into a too narrow driveway to park for lunch and had to back out on a two lane highway. Scrapped the rig by the exhaust pipe. Vicki saved me from severely damaging the coach on a fixed cement post. All that happened was a little paint was exchanged. And as they say in NASCAR:”Rubbin’ is racin’”!!

Rarely do I include political views in our blog, but in this episode I’m going to make an exception. We watched the news and saw that Joe Biden has dropped out of the Presidential Election. We are witnessing significant history in the past week. An attempted assignation of a former president and now this. Simply amazing! I first want to thank President Biden for not only his courage, but for his decision to drop out of the race. I will admit that I was on that bandwagon for him to drop out, he is just to old for the decisions and consequences of the job. Joe you’ve done so many good things in your service to the country, rest on your laurels. You’ve earned it. As to his opponent, convicted of 34 felonies, rape and trying to overturn an election, why do people still follow him? Women should be outraged at old men decided what they should do with their bodies. Don’t get me started with the federal courts and the SCOTUS. I’ll stop at that and leave my opinions out of the blog. But if you want to continue this discussion, you are more than welcome to text, e-mail, or call me and we can discuss things further.

Other than that, did I mention, we’re still loving retirement.
