Episode 11 : And we’re heading west again.

Another week has been dropped in the books and where did the time go. We’ve spent the last week in Accord, New York and the emphasis is on the first syllable not the second like the popular automobile made by Honda. A quaint little town out in the middle of no where New York, but a great place to catch our breath and just enjoy life.

The high light of the week was a trip to the FDR presidential library in Hyde Park, New York. A stunning drive and a bridge across the Hudson River took us to this fantastic experience. The library was dripping with history and then were able to walk through the house where the President lived. There were some fantastic tributes to both Franklin and Eleonor Roosevelt. Seeing his written notes on everything from the economy to WWII was mesmerizing! Granted, he made some really bad decisions (Japanese Internment, failing to stop lynching come to mind), however, so many things he did, did move America forward and truly thought outside of the box.

We did get to sample some of the local produce at several roadside farms. Got some great tomatoes, squash, and cukes. Also enjoyed some wonderful corn salsa which has become my new favorite thing to put on tube steaks. The Rondout Thousand Trails was a nice park without the usual 1000 pot holes. Lots of folks just up for the weekend and so during the week the park was basically ours.

We are now spending a week in South Timothy Lake in East Strosburg, Pennsylvania. So far only one issue, not AT&T or Verizon internet. We’ve actually had to purchase the local cable internet to get service. Not overly frustrating, but a new mindset. Other than the FDR museum, not much sightseeing, just basically chillin’. Emmett’s baseball team has done it again. This time in a Cal Ripkin tournament. With a series of blow out wins in the tournament, Emmett finished off their opponent from Moses Lake with a 2-1 complete game. They are now off to Eugene for the tournament of champions and should they be triumphant there, they come to Annapolis Maryland for the big dance. We won’t have to make the cross country jaunt, we’re all ready there! Oliver is busy with yet another successful football camp and is throwing iron around as he is bulking up for the upcoming freshman football season. Again I ask, where did the time go?

Justin and Elisabeth are enjoying their new RV and taking advantage of the dry summer months. I’ll be interested to hear about the exploits of Duchess as she makes the adjustment to smaller RV living.

Will try to contact my Cousin Mike Purdie for a visit while here in Pennsylvania. Not much else to report on, but did I mention? We’re still loving retirement.
