Episode 10: Bristol Connecticut, Da, Da, Da,…Da, Da, Dot. Home to ESPN

Hard to believe that another week has passed. A week that was filled with some impressive sights and also a tinge of sadness as we said good-bye to our Auntie. We are now in Bristol Connecticut home of ESPN. Sadly, they don’t allow tours. We left Middleboro with bright sunshine on the fifth, albeit 80% humidity. We are staying outside Lake Compounce Amusement Park. A nice campground for a couple of days as a replacement for a thousand trails park that canceled our reservation two weeks before we were supposed to arrive. Hence our $$$ stay at a KOA outside of Boston as we scrambled to find a campground over the 4th.

We did have to say good-bye to Teresa as she headed back to OKC before the weather and the 4th traffic started. It was so good visit and hopefully we introduced her to full-time RV life. Most of the time it runs smoothly,….however!

While in Middleboro, we did get to explore Boston and see some of the sights. Took in a game at historic Fenway Park where the Red Sox beat the Padres 4-1. What a nostalgic ball park and a sight to behold. We had wonderful seats behind home plate. (Box seats no less). A great day and the people watching was spectacular. The Boston Fans are just that, real fans! Not afraid to boo their own, but definitely give a hard time to their opponents!

We also took in the Boston Museum of Art and was wowed by some incredible art.

We then spent two different days in Plymouth Mass. Once with Teresa before she left and then we returned to walk some of the shops we missed on our previous visit. We did see the Mayflower and Plymouth Rock. A bit of a let down in terms of the Rock, but the Mayflower was very interesting as we had a Docent who knew his stuff and could spin a yarn. We then turned inward and up river to battleship cove and explored the USS Joseph P Kennedy and the USS Massachusetts (Retired). Amazing how those sailors lived. The Cove is a very cool museum with not only a battleship, destroyer, and submarine; it also had a PT boat displayed along with Viet Nam era helicopters and memorabilia. Definitely worth the time. Did have a bit of difficultly getting to the exhibit as the Google machine directed us to the middle of an intrastate bridge which was directly above the parking lot. Had to make a 5 mile reroute, but it was all good.

Discovering here on the East Coast darting between vehicles is a sport practiced by most drivers of red and black cars. Several times I was cut off, but thankfully no collisions. Did have a few choice words that they didn’t hear. Here in Bristol we are experiencing torrential rain, but probably not as bad as what’s coming to Brownsville.

Had great 4th of July phone calls with family and chatted about a Pox on King George and no taxation without representation. The fourth for us was rather muted as Mass. does not allow fireworks except with certified folks which made for a relatively quiet 4th which Roxie truly appreciated. KOA made up for the lack of fireworks with a parade of golf carts and their kiddie train encircling the park. Also had a huge contingent of kids on bikes in the parade with several dads running alongside the beginning riders. My guess after the parade, the dad’s deserved an adult beverage and a couple of tylenol. Gotta hand it to KOA, they also had some interesting food trucks during our stay. They included a dessert truck, the usual food truck meals and even a brewery truck with local craft beers.

We are here for a mere 2 days and then it is off to central New York for a week. Who knows what adventures we’ll have, but we are excited to find out. Did I mention, we’re still loving retirement!
