Blog 2.0 : Delays, Recoveries, and New Neighbors

Been an interesting weekend here in Riverbend, so sit back, open a Baptist beer and catch up. Wow, what a Superbowl! Really didn’t care who won, but the game was certainly entertaining. Several of the Superbowl Commercials were entertaining as well. We enjoyed the game at Dan and Becky Bailey’s place with his 70” big screen. Could definitely see all the details of the game. Enjoyed a wonderful Mexican themed buffet and with all Superbowl parties, ate way too much.

We had new neighbors move in across the way. Craig and Michelle from Minnesota moved into the lot across from us. They have a 43’ Solitude 5th wheel which was delivered by their son on Saturday. The big beast was a challenge for them to get in so I helped them back in. Much to the scorn of the wicked witch and her flying monkey who came over and told them they ‘could have backed it in in half the time’. Well, you didn’t step up to the plate, you only criticized, so shame on you!!! After 15 minutes of repositioning etc, we landed the beast and they are now settled in. Just neighbors helping neighbors.

Vicki was initially scheduled for hammer toe surgery today, however, we are on a weeks hold. We discovered that because we are taking Ozembic for weight loss, surgery is not advised unless you are off the drug for at least a week. The issue is that Ozembic apparently slows down the rate of digestion which leads to the sensation of fullness leading to less eating. The problem is that by doing that the normal no food by mouth 12 hours before surgery rule flies out the window. It can lead to food remaining in the stomach which can aspirate to the lungs causing damage. Not a good thing for someone with COPD, so to be on the safe side, the doctor decided to postpone for a week. We are in total agreement, while she’ll probably have a local, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Had an enjoyable evening at our club house with a dice and card game horse race. It’s essentially a craps game where the horses are controlled by a roll of the dice. The pool is built based on rolls of a dice in increments of 5, 10, 15, or 20 cents. The most you can lose is $2.50 and it gets pretty intense as the horse run down the track. Most of the time, my horses never left the starting gate!!!

My ear graft is healing nicely. It’s gone through several colors to include, white, pink, red, purple and back to pink. Will get the stitches removed in two weeks and get the all clear.

The weather the past few days has turned chilly with it only getting in the 60’s. Not complaining, just wished the wind wouldn’t blow quite so hard as that makes it seem colder.

Other than that, we are still loving retirement.
