Left Alone and Unsupervised

Today Vicki boards a pressurized aluminum tube for 5 hours to leave me unsupervised for a week. Although I will have a cell phone leash, I’ll basically be unsupervised for a week. Only time will tell as events unfold for the ensuing chaos. Should be fun.

Spent a relaxing afternoon Sunday at the pool with Robert and Christie to get out of the still blistering heat of a late south Texas summer. We did spend a few moments earlier in the day visiting our neighbor in the hospital Kent. Not doing the greatest, but hopefully he’ll recover with some life changes and medical assistance. He’s a good guy and the girls miss uncle Kent with his pets and treats!

I’ll take Vicki to the Airport around 2 for her 3:55 flight to Dallas, then onto Seattle, 1st class. The days of coach are behind us. The extra money is so worth it for 1st class. The only thing that we’re concerned about is that there may be a Karen on board to ruin what otherwise what will be a pleasant experience. Flying first is also important as she only has 1 hour to get to her connecting flight and no matter what we think, we just don’t move as fast.

Vicki has left an extensive list of things I’ve got to accomplish. Annie to the Vet for a recheck, Annie medications at specific times, me to the VA to discuss disability benefits, Orthopedic surgeon to for my preop appointment, and anything else we can come up with to keep me out of trouble. Other than that I’ll be basically counting down the days until I get this hip replaced.

As you can guess, when left unsupervised, not all things get accomplished. Like getting the Blog published last Saturday. My apologies and will try and do better nextime. It is now a week later on a Thursday. Vicki has returned from the Pacific Northwest and things are returning to somewhat normal. I had a good, albeit lonely, week alone. Walked the girls and had several nice trips to the pool with Christie and Robert where we solved most of the world’s problems. They also had me over for a wonderful supper of BBQ Chicken legs. Thanks so much!!!

Vicki had a good time in WA with her father although babysitting the ‘monster’ aka Duchess the dog was somewhat of a challenge. A skiddish dog that had a tendency not to mind and nip just a bit too much. Other than that all went well. Had our new friend and Chicago Bears fan Bob over to watch his Bears get owned yet again by the Love Era Packers. Did get a few things done this week, changed oil on the generator and then ‘exercised’ it for 2 hours, so should be ready to go. Watered the golf cart batteries and basically binge watched some old television.

Texas and the planet Mercury have essentially the same surface temperature as the past week has been unbearable. Nothing like having to hang out in the RV’s AC just to survive. The dogs look at me and ask why? Are having a bit of a paperwork snafu with my hip surgery as the left hand is not quite sure what the right hand is doing. Still trying to get the paperwork from the PCP to the Ortho doc to the hospital so we can pre-register for Monday. Talk about having to jump through hoops. But hey, it’s medicare and we’ve all heard those horror stories. So far though, it has been a very straightforward and easy process. I did make a trip to San Benito to see if my knee injury qualifies for VA benefits. Not holding my breath, but who knows, stranger things have happened. Nothing else really to report other than we’re counting the minutes until I can get this hip replaced, then the knee, rehab and finally back to traveling around this wonderful country of ours. Again, did I mention we’re still loving retirment?

Not much else to report other than all paperwork is in and surgery is moving forward. I’ll probably go another 2 weeks between posts as I’ll undoubtedly be in a lowered state of consciousness due to pain meds. Still loving retirement.

Best of luck with the surgery. You have a good nurse so I’m sure all will be great. Talk about lonely…… I’ll be feeling that for a long time! Service and karaoke after is next Saturday. Then I fly to Iowa for the internment on the 30th. Driving up to Alexandria, Mn to visit dear friend from college and her hubby. Gone a week. Sorry you’ve got such. Everyone in Austin is fed up ,too. Hugs! 🤗

Good luck with the surgery. You have already been through it before, do you know what to expect.

  3. Greetings from the far north brrrr
We are so glad to hear you survived the week on your own safely, we had faith in you. We hope your surgery is successful and you have a speedy recovery, no doubt Vicki will take good care of you. The weather is starting to change here little cooler at night and the leaves are starting to fall. The plan for us is to start heading south October 21, all depending on what the Hematologist has to say next week, fingers crossed. I actually feel pretty good my leg looks almost normal, although not a big fan of the blood thinners. Funny you work all those years without using any sick time, then when you retire you end up broken hmmmm should have used the sick time.
Miss you guys a bunch, speedy recovery
    Big hugs❤️❤️
    Shar Ron and Oscar🐾
