Sweltering in South Texas

Another week of summer has enveloped us with not too much to report. We did survive our first Tropical Storm/disturbance on Monday and Tuesday. About the only thing we got though was some much-needed rain. No torrential downpours, no high winds, not catastrophic damage, tornadoes, or other weather events to make our lives miserable. Simply soaking rain and a bit of breeze. Enough that we rolled in our awning so as not to have it damaged. Other than that, just meh!!

Have been to the doctor’s and thanks to my primary care physician, I’ve been fast tracked for hip replacement. I go in on the 18th of September to have the hip done and then the clock starts ticking for knee replacement. One nice thing is that I’m sure I’ll be excused from jury duty as my guess is no lawyer would want a grouchy 65 year old white guy on pain meds on their jury here in South Texas. I’ll find out next week.

Our friends Robert and Becky had an RV semi-catastrophe this week. Their toilet didn’t reseat after flushing as so ran continuously until the black tank was full and then started leaking into their 5th wheel galley. EEEWWW!!! Fortunately, they had drained and cleaned the black tank so basically it was just water, however. EEEWWW!!! We saw the water coming out from under their rig and so brought down several microfiber towels to help clean up the mess. Their rig’s insulation definitely got wet and with the high humidity, will take forever to dry. So goes the life of an RVer.

Our friend Robert is doing much better after his incidents with strokes. He functioning fine although he still tires rather quickly. Have been going with him to the club house and playing pool. So fun to shoot some stick and swap manly stories. Haven’t made waffles yet, but I’m sure we’ll do it one day.

Vicki and I are still working wonders with WW and are down a combined 50 lbs. Clothes are definitely fitting better! Other than that, not much else newsworthy so will stop for now and still loving retirement.

Thursday was a day filled with everything from soup to nuts and everything in between. I had a phone visit with my Primary Care Physician, who has cleared me for my surgery. The only prep work he wants me to do is drink a Boost a day a week prior to surgery to elevate my protein levels so as to aid the healing and recovery process. All the lab work looked good with no major issues. One hurdle down, two to go.

Christie helped Vicki by finding a local hair dresser and scheduled an appointment to get a haircut. I’ll attach pictures later. Also took a few minutes to help our neighbor getting pictures downloaded from her phone. She had misread her external drive where her phone was located and thought she was accessing her car, since the name on her phone was Cadilliac. All was good and the world became a happy place once again.

We did have a surprise visit from Joe and Annette Ward who were down from Wisconsin for a couple of days to unload a trailer full of household items to remain here until their return for the winter. They are doing well and are having a great time up north. So much so, they even bought a pontoon boat! Pretty cool, huh. They are just down for 3 nights and then back up to Wisconsin for the remainder of the summer. So good to see them and catch up with their story as well.

Our friend Dan is getting ready to head to Germany to see family on Monday. He’ll be gone for 5 weeks so hopefully nothing in the rig fails as we’ll have our RV tech on another continent. LOL. Other than that, not much else to report, still loving retirement.

So yesterday was a big day for my bride as she has, with assistance of Christie, found a hair stylist! As you can see from the photo above, she looks even more beautiful than before! We love the new look and she says it’s easy to take care of. Wouldn’t know, all I have to do is towel dry the top of my noggin and I’m good! LOL. Still really hot, but are getting things done here. Slowly, but surely. Counting down the days until surgery and it can’t get here fast enough. Vicki is ready to jump on the pressurized aluminum tube and see her father for a week. Me, just looking forward to watching football today. Got a bit of great news this morning, the court decided it would be in their best interest not to put me on a jury which I wholeheartedly agree with. Eventually I’d like to serve, but now is not the time. Still really hot here, but we’re acclimating. And we are still loving retirement.
