Yes…Texas is hot!

Thought I’d drop a few words into the blog and catch you up on the happenings in extreme south Texas. Summer has raised its ugly head down here and extreme heat is the name of the game. Each morning we walk the dogs in 78 degree heat with at least 70% humidity. Not pleasant for neither man nor beast. But hey, it’s south Texas.

Basically just marking time for doctor’s appointments and insurance approval for the hip replacement. I did meet with orthopedic surgeon yesterday and we are now scheduled for surgery on the 11th of July. He said there should be no issues and I’ll be able to travel in 3 to 4 weeks. I’ll just need to use a cane for the next 6 months to insure balance and avoid activities that could lead to a fall. So no bicycling until the hip has time to really heal.

Looks like we’ll head to the pacific northwest the 1st or second week of August unless some unforeseen medical issue rears its ugly head. We’ll bolt up to the farm, see the kids and grandkids and then head south like all good snowbirds. Hopefully the price of gas won’t make the trip too painful, but I’m not going to hold my breath either. Eventually we’ll figure out that the oil companies are colluding to keep the price of gas way too high.

Emmett and Oliver are doing well. Ollie finished a great football season in the spring and received a well earned plaque for being on the initial 5v5 team at Stanwood and is well on his way to being on of the big uglies! Emmett is lighting it up on the diamond both with his arm and his bat. They’ve gone to the championship game in the last two tournaments and won one of the them. It’s so fun to watch these kids play. Josh and Annalise are looking forward to a trip to SoCal to see the major attractions and catch a couple of baseball games. Elisabeth and Justin are busy with readying their houses and keeping the farm at bay. Dominic and Jess are doing well and Dom has had a major breakthrough with his eczema. Vicki has a new passion out in the screen room every morning. 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles. I don’t have the patience, but she takes to it like a duck to water!

We made some boo companions here in the summer park and have wonderful discussions about everything, usually every evening. We made new friends, Israel and Sandra, newly weds who are renting a couple of doors down from us. Sweet folks and they invited us over for a BBQ this Sunday past. Also have been getting parts for the RV and fixing the final assembly of the shades and the bed. Life is coming together here in the RGV (Rio Grande Valley) and we think of you often. Hope this finds you well and always look forward to your comments. Did I mention? We’re still loving retirement.
