Episode 7 – Upstate New York with Niagara Falls

Having put Illinois, Indiana, and Pennsylvania in our rear view mirror, it was on to New York. Today’s blog originates from Verona NY after spending 6 days at Four Mile State Park just outside of Fort Niagara. Writing the blog today as we are stuck in the rig as it has rained at least an inch in the last hour here. 4 Mile Creek state park is one of the nicest state parks we’ve ever been in and at less than $30 a night, a real bargain. We only had 50 amp hook up, but we were in a hose length of water and try as we may, we can never fill our grey and black tanks in 6 days, so all was good. The place was (pardon the pun) parked out and there was a zip code between rigs! Definitely recommend it at this time of year. The weekend was packed, but come monday, we basically had the park to ourselves.

Sunday we decided to explore, but rather than drive about, we took the free shuttle that went all the way to the falls along with a semi-guided tour of what to see and do while we were there. Turns out there was a delicious Italian bakery, DiCamillo’s as one of the main attractions. The canoli’s were…meh, but the glazed stick doughnuts were wonderful. Went back for seconds after we went grocery shopping for the week.

We then went on the Maid of the Mist boat ride at the base of Niagara Falls and as the pictures show, you definitely need the ponchos they provide. What a marvel of nature and so much fun. Niagara Falls is definitely a people watchers paradise. The next day we ventured over to Toronto to view the Falls from the Canadian side. Sorry USA, but Canada has a much better view of the falls. A very easy trip into Canada and even drove by a park where school kids were playing cricket. How cool is that!!! Our last day in Western upstate New York we ventured to Lockport NY to see some locks and a museum of the Erie Canal. Had a very fun time and have include some where’s Fredo pictures. Kept them simple so most of my army buddies and followers can find me.

A minor frustration with refilling prescriptions, but a few extra phone calls and it got sorted out. Such is the life of a full time RVer. We are really enjoying seeing new parts of the country and looking forward to more new adventures. Keep the comments coming and did I mention…we’re still loving retirement.

Sounds like you’re having a great time. I love Niagara Falls! My mother’s family lived in Toronto, Hamilton and smaller cities around the Falls. We went there every time we visited!!
