Blog 2.0 : Day 4

Slowly, but surely, I’m catching up with the time missed with our blog. Yesterday was a chill day, mostly doing chores about the house. One thing of note, our RV table that was supposed to arrive in mid-March, arrived Saturday, so spent the morning installing it. Nothing really to install other than 12 screws, however it meant measuring and cutting carpet and aligning everything with bifocals. This getting older certainly makes things more challenging. It makes for a much more open concept in the rig and lightens our overall load by 30 lbs. (The chairs and temp tables).

Our new table in front of the rig.

Vicki spent the afternoon shopping for lamps and storage containers while I enjoyed the NFL championship games. Good to see KC win, but was disappointed that Detroit didn’t pull off the win. They played a good first half, but just couldn’t finish. Would have liked to see them get that never been to a Superbowl monkey off their back.

Today is not going to be fun day for yours truly. I’ve been diagnosed with skin cancer and have both basal cell and squamous cell forms. A week ago, II had the squamous cell removed from just outside my right ear. Today I’ll have the stitches removed and then they’ll remove the basal cell from my left ear. I’m apparently going to be Vincent Van Goeh as they are going to remove a quarter sized chunk from my left ear. My understanding is that they are going to take a skin graft from my chest and rebuild the ear flap. They caught all of these cancers early so should be no problems. It just means that my golf game is on hold for a few days and I’ll be wearing a much larger hat when outdoors.

Interesting side bar, the dermatologist who found the cancer was not the one who did the surgery to remove it. The one who found the cancer was a young lady who looked just out of high school but did a thorough examination of all my skin. The only thing was she was way to perky and maybe should have been a pediatrician. Lots of references to Gen Z stuff to which I had no clue. Then came the dermatologist who actually removed the first cancer. No bedside manner at all. Came in, never introduced himself, but spoke incessantly. Rapidly explained the procedure, numbed the spot, then went to work with his assistant. He was apparently teaching the assistant and complained that I was a bleeder. He sounded as if he had had way too much coffee that morning and so I didn’t try to engage in the conversation he was attempting. I just wanted him to get the procedure done. And to top it off, as he was stitching me up, he hit the unnumbed portion of my ear twice and he apologized with Oops, my bad!  Hopefully today will go better.

Last week we got a notice of Recall of the Maverik. Love that vehicle and thought it was going to be a major issue. Unlike cars of my youth where you fix it with a socket set and hand tools, now its all about modules and computers. Turns out it was a sensor that could indicate that the turn signal light could fail, which in turn would not tell me that the blinker light was out and could lead to an accident. Who needs a sensor to do that? When the light is out, replace the damn thing!! Anyway, called the dealer and the receptionist gave standard playbook answer of a half day and might need to keep it overnight. WTF!?! So I called the service manager and he said, no, it’s a 30 minute fix at most since all they had to do was hook it up to the computer and reprogram the sensor. Seriously?!? Cars have become so complex that they only people that can work on them have a computer science degree and wear a white lab coat!!!

Vicki is so proud of the new fridge.
Our lunch in Mexico.

I’ve taken up enough of your time today, so will chat with you yet again tomorrow with the continuing saga of what is known as our Golden years. But bottom line is still loving retirement!

Ouch!! That looks like quite the incision 🤕 regardless of who found the spots, it WAS caught in a timely manner. Enjoy reading about all your experiences. Was sorry to hear of Frank’s passing and your fur baby, as well. Sending good vibes and prayers for both you and Vicki.
