Las Vegas is hot, hot, hot!!!

Our arrival Saturday in Las Vegas was greeted with triple digit temperatures. It is definitely summer in southern Nevada. Can’ complain though, we could be in Texas or the mid west where the severe weather is even more extreme.

After getting the rig set up, we were giddy with anticipation as we were looking forward to meeting our Brownsville compadres the Stillwells. We weren’t disappointed as our Uber whisked us (well, to be honest, finally got us there because traffic in Vegas is an absolute bear) down to Fremont Street. We met our good friends at the Carousel Bar and a magical evening ensued. Had a nice steak at Magnolia’s restaurant in the 4 Queens and then on to Fremont. An eclectic mix of street performers, tourists, and lookie-loos. We fit right in. A few things we couldn’t unsee, like the woman with huge dangling boobs covered only by nipple tape. Yikes!!! But being a people watchers paradise, it worked out. We went into a casino and gambled for about an hour, Robert was the big winner with a $600 cashout! I had a lucky streak at video black jack but pushed it too far and finally lost my $20 after being up almost $80.

It was so good seeing them and all their positive energy. Hope you can see that in the pictures that follow.

Sunday was a bit harrowing as we got up early with the dogs and decided to take advantage of the hot tub. I rode my bike with the supplies and Vicki walked. After a nice 45 minute soak, Vicki noticed 2 police cars in the park. Didn’t think too much of it until I took the trash down to the dumpster. Then I counted 7 police cars and two ambulances with probably a dozen uniformed LV police surrounding an RV. They were lighting up their spinny lights and alternating with a whoop from their siren as they used the bull horn to talk a guy out. It was an apparent domestic dispute involving children and girl friend, but we took shelter in the rig until it was over. After talking with the rangers, it all ended well with the girlfriend and kids getting out safely, however the man remains in the park. Really? C’mon Thousand Trails, is this really the kind of issues you want going on in your parks? While I really appreciate the fact that this may be a mental health issue, let’s get this guy some help, out of the park, before he does some real damage. But that just a conclusion based on very few known facts.

Be that as it may, spent most of the day recovering, did some grocery shopping and chatted with our son and firmed up plans for their arrival on Wednesday. Can hardly wait! Also going to include a photo of Ollie’s crew. Are they awesome, or what? Must say, so proud!!! Off to find some AC, but still loving retirement!

Day 107

Monday brought another broiling day temperature wise here in Las Vegas. 99 degrees (that’s 37.2 for our Canadian friends 🙂 ) and even the dogs are not excited about it. Walking to the bit of grass in the park means they walk on asphalt and rocks and they’d use words that would make Samuel L. Jackson blush. Also as a PSA when using a water pik, ensure that it is turned off before plugging it in. Even diluted to half strength, Listerine when shot it your eye burns like a m#$%$###**$r, to quote Samuel L once again!

Moving on to the more mundane task at hand, we hit up Wally World for drugs (Prescription) and assorted sundries to make our lives easier. Found out our friends Christy and Robert are extending their time here in Sin City so will do brunch with them tomorrow. The kids will be arriving Wednesday and so looking forward to that.

Did have a bit of troubling news as Frank took a tumble on the farm. Had to call 911 to assist him getting up and bandaging a wound on his arm. Will be keeping a close eye on him for the next few days as since he is blood thinners, want to insure internal bleeding doesn’t become a problem. After chatting with Elisabeth and calming the situation down, we had a date night and enjoyed a delicious dinner at the Angry Butcher’s on Boulder Highway. The chef needs to brush up on his grilling techniques as Vicki ordered a steak medium and it came out blood rare. Had to send it back. I ordered medium and got well done, sadly you can’t uncook your prime rib, but it was still delicious. Gambled for a bit, losing $30 while my lovely bride broke even. Another great albeit busy day, we are still loving retirement.

Day 108

Another great day of retirement here in Southern Nevada. Just incredibly hot as the thermometer again hit the triple digits. Summer is not the best time to be in Las Vegas. We didn’t get a bunch of stuff accomplished, however we did get to CVS to get some sundries and then to Costco to fill the Escape with cheaper than city rates fuel. Gas is certainly more expensive here in the West.

Christy and Robert called and are staying a couple of more days so we went down to Fremont street and enjoyed a comfort meal at Hash a Go-Go. It was a twist on American Comfort food. I had a ginormous chicken fried steak, while Vicki enjoyed an even bigger Cobb salad. We then headed to Fremont Street to watch the show. People watching with a cocktail definitely makes for a fun evening. We were not disappointed as we got a bar stool at Binion’s and enjoyed a good two hours of street performers, tourists, and gawking folks walking past our location. Even the Uber rides to and from Fremont were a pleasure. Finally made it to bed way past our usual bedtime of 10 but did so with joy in our souls. Still loving retirement.

Day 111

Blog post day and man am I behind! The last three days have been on fire!!! Not literally, but seemingly. Temps here in Vegas have been triple digits. Even with a dry heat it’s just too damn hot! Be that as it may, The kids arrived in Las Vegas and what a joy it is to see the grandsons and their mom and dad. All look great and are having a great time here.

We then let the kids have the day to travel to Hoover Dam and explore Las Vegas. We have an issue with our furr baby Annie as she has chewed off a wart and it has become infected. Good thing there is a Banfield Animal hospital here in Las Vegas. The vet said he could remove the abcess and also do a cleaning of her teeth. A little concerning as all the other vets said she was a bit old to put under anestesia, but we need to get this healed. While she’s under we’ll also have her teeth cleaned so hopefully she’ll be able to eat on a more consistant basis.

The trip was well worth it to see Oliver and his crew with their dance routines. He was simply amazing and it did our hearts so proud to see him giving it all he had on the dance floor. He was simply great and entertaining. Not being a prude or anything, but if the world is so concerned about Drag Shows, they need to see some of these “dance” competitions. I’m sorry, but young girls are totally sexualized in some of these crews way before they understand the connotations of their actions. Just sayin’

Looking forward to having the boys all day today and sharing some experiences here in Las Vegas. Will take them to the Pinball Museum and In and Out for starters. From there we’ll play it by ear. Still loving retirement.
