The Infamous Good News…Bad News.

Still down in really hot Brownsville TX, but we are making the most of our stay. Since we are going to be here, might as well make ourselves comfortable so we are adding a permanant screen room after our portable incident with the park snitches. It will cost a shiny nickel, but well worth it as the mosquitoes here are man eaters! Will include pictures in our next post.

We had an evening out in Brownsville with our park buddies. We went to a food truck court called the broken sprocket. It is open Wednesday evenings through Sunday evenings from 6ish to midnight with several food trucks, music and an all around good time. It has a nice well stocked bar and local music to enterain. We went on a Sunday evening. The food was wonderful and the companionship was out of this world. Again no politics just food, frivality and a good time had by all. Christi lead it all with her bubble wand and we kicked back and sang along with the tunes the band tried to knock out.

An update on the hip. Saw the Orthopedic surgeon on Tuesday last week. I think he was trying to convince me I needed to have surgery by saying “the x-rays show bone on bone, when would you like to have this hip replaced?” I replied “Tomorrow work for you?” That took him aback and he said we’ve got some hoops to jump through, but let’s get this done as soon as possible. I have to go to my primary doctor to get clearance, (in other words, be healthy enough for surgery.) meaning blood workup, chest x-ray, UA, and EKG. Got those, and the EKG showed a FLB (funny little beat) so I’ve been referred to a cardiologist for a final blessing before I can have surgery. I guess it’s the right and safe thing to do, but so frustrating having to wait!!! Looks like we’ll be scheduling surgery sometime after Memorial Day in the first or second week of June. Then hopefully we can recover and get back on the road to Washington for Frank’s 90th birthday.

Vicki is doing ok, however she is having some breathing issues which we are having the doctor look into. She has established herself with my doctor while she still has the hospital insurance. She is a bit taken aback as this week she signed up for medicare. Says it make her feel old, but i still think she’s young an beautiful as the day I married her. By the by, this week we celebrate our 44th wedding anniversary. Vicki had a great mother’s day and got to talk to both our kids. Also we both got baseball and football swag from out grandsons. Makes us feel even more part of the games as we watch.

Today we had a real thunderstorm with real rain. Lightning and thunder proceeded 6 inches of rain which filled the resacas and settled the dust. We’d forgotten how wonderful the sound of hard rain makes on the roof of an RV. Good sleeping weather until Roxie goes into meltdown mode.

We do have one more maintenance issue to deal with and that’s painting our shed. We don’t have to get a permit, just permission from the manager. Since we’re not changing the color of the shed that should be no problem. Just to poke at the snoops here, we’re going to put up a psuedo permit in a different color and see how long it takes them to report it. I’m setting an over and under of 12 hours. Always poking the underbelly of the park old farts!

When more news of happens, I’ll be sure to let you know. Did I mention we’re still loving retirement.

PS: My heart aches for the families in Texas having to deal with the gun violence of today. Is there a point we can come to agreement that something needs to be done. Stop this Democrat-Republican, Liberal-Conservative argument and look deeper. How many babies do we have to lose? How many crushed families must we have? Responsible gun owners aren’t the problem. But hate is not the answer. I am not sending the families ‘thoughts and prayers’ because it just doesn’t work. What I am sending in angry letters to every legislator I can write to starting with the idiots here in Texas. Please join me in trying to eradicate this senseless killing of our own.
