The Final Road Home

Monday PM

We are staying ahead of winter’s icy grasp as we proceed back to our homebase in Brownsville. We made Texas on Sunday after spending a cold night in Demming NM which was proceeded by a colder night in Pima County fairgrounds in Tucson. Tonight we are in Ozona, TX, where the evening temperature is actually bearable. Mid 50’s. Didn’t realize home much we missed the warm weather. We did have a bit of an adventure finding our camp site this evening. Our original campsite turned out to be as far from a 4 star park as Pro Westling is a real sport. It was essentially a storage lot on hill that had power hook ups. So we used the google machine and found a wonderful campground with full hook ups, level, and space between rigs for $35. Can’t go wrong with that! This was after the night in Demming at Bates motel. It was only $20 and thank goodness there were only 3 other campers. Words just do not do it justice.

Friday 12/9

Have settled in nicely here in Riverbend. Definitely a much slower pace than on the road, however the spiderweb that is the rumor and gossip mill is beyond spectacular. Won’t bore you with the details, however the soap opera that is a 55+ park is simply amazing. The s##t that people fuss over in simply mind blowing. Now that all the winter Texans are back, the park has taken on a whole new vibe. The first couple of days it was actually cold which necessitated unpacking our Washington long sleeves, but after 2 days, we’re back in the 80’s.

Each morning greets us with 65+ and 80-95% humidity. Keeps the skin nice and moist. Each morning we greet the day with coffee and reading out in the screened in porch. We have a bird feeder with converts all the birds to “Democrats” as they wolf down free food in less that 1/2 an hour. We get Green Jays, Tit mice, Wrens, Doves, Reticulated Woodpeckers and Grackles. Along with an occasional whistling duck and grey squirrels. So each morning is coffee and a show!

Got most of our Christmas shopping done and have even ordered a new bed for the coach. The inflatable system is on its last legs and so its time to upgrade. Speaking of upgrading, we’re still looking for a new coach as we continue to get the repairs done on our sun cruiser. Our ice maker is now a-okay, but we’ve still got a ways to go with HVAC. Now the propane heat comes on of its own accord canceling out the effects of the AC. The immediate fix is turning off the propane at the tank and only turning it on as necessary. A MacGyverism, but it works! Hopefully the RV repair guys will get the parts and get it fixed.

Day to day life is beginning to blend together and calming retirement way down. Try to ride the bike each day and explore the area. Are allready planning next year’s adventures an see where life takes us. Hope this finds you well and I’ll try to post again sometime next week with something spectacular to report. Did I mention we’re still loving retirement!
