Texas Doldrums

While retirement is everything and a bag of chips, being stuck in one place is not our idea of a good time. This hip of mine is driving all of crazy as we cannot do our intended travel. Granted we’ve saved a bunch of money by not being on the road at over $4 a gallon of fuel, but it does make for some long stretches of boredom. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining…much…it’s just not a ton of things one can do without walking any distance. I’ve got a doctor’s appointment with the orthopedic surgeon on the 18th of May, but that to seems a long way away.

We spend a lot of time reading, surfing the internet and binge-watching television, but even that gets old. Yesterday we did go on an outing to the beach at Boca Chica. One of the highlights was being able to see SpaceX and the rockets used. Very impressive. Reminiscent of my days in Lompoc. The rockets certainly remind us of the Buck Rodgers style aircrafts. It was very nice and the dog’s seemed to enjoy the water. We had gone to Dick’s Sporting goods and gotten a personal gazebo which kept the intense sun to a minimum and worked nicely as a windbreak as well. It was definitely nice getting the toes in the sand.

While at Boca Chica some folks think they’re smarter than the tides. No matter how hard one tries you can’t fix stupid!

I’ve been trying to ride my bike 5 miles a day around our park. I am so glad the electric bike is pedal assisted. Not a ton of exercise, but at least the heart rate goes up a bit. With the wind at my back, it’s a piece of cake and so glad for the electric boost going headlong into the 20 – 30 mph winds here in South Texas.

Another highlight of our days is getting to watch our 2 grandsons on Facebook as they participate in baseball and football. Not the same as being there but close. Truly not much to report as we’ve gotten ourselves stuck in a bit of a rut. Hopefully will have a more optimistic report next week. But did I mention, we’re still loving retirement.
